Fresh Sheep Blood Collected Weekly for Microbiological Testing, Culture Media and Disinfectant Validation
ACILA® supplies fresh sheep blood collected weekly from veterinarian-controlled donor animals via aseptic venipuncture. The blood is processed under aseptic conditions — either gently defibrinated or threated with an anticoagulant like heparin, sodium citrate or EDTA. No preservatives or antibiotics are added.
Our sheep blood is ideal for microbiological applications, including as an additive for culture media (e.g., blood agar), for the preparation of viable erythrocytes, simulation of contamination of e.g. surgical instruments, disinfectant efficacy testing and other diagnostic or research uses.

Heparinised with 10 I.U./mL and offered as test kit with separate ACILA® protamine sulphate solution which can be added to reactivate the coagulation.

ACILA® offers sheep blood, heparinised with 10 I.U./mL, as test kit with ACILA® protamine sulfate solution, for simulation of contamination according to ISO 15883 or relevant RKI guidelines. It is e. g. used to simulate the coagulation of blood on surgical instruments or endoscopes. The procedure is used to validate cleaning processes.
The sheep blood can also serve for examination of surface disinfectants e.g. in their disinfecting effect on pathogens and can be contaminated with different bacteria before coagulation. The coagulation is reactivated by adding ACILA® protamine sulfate solution which has a concentration of 1.000 I.U./mL. We recommend a mixing ratio of 0.015 mL ACILA® protamine sulfate solution to 1 mL sheep blood heparinised with 10 I.U./mL. ACILA® protamine sulfate solution does not contain preservatives like Benzylalcohol which is e.g. contained in drugs for human application. The used heparine is of pharmacopeial quality.
